Important — read before using
SA Law provides general educational information about South African law. It is not legal advice, does not create an attorney–client relationship, and must not be relied on as a substitute for consultation with a qualified legal practitioner admitted in the Republic of South Africa.
1. What this service is
SA Law is an AI-powered educational tool that answers general questions about South African law, based on the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, common law, statutes, and publicly available legal information. Responses are generated by a large language model and may be incomplete, out of date, or incorrect.
2. Not legal advice
- Nothing in a response constitutes legal advice.
- No attorney–client, advocate–client, or fiduciary relationship is formed.
- You must not act on any information from the assistant without first consulting a qualified South African attorney or Legal Aid SA (0800 110 110).
- The assistant cannot represent you in court, at the CCMA, or before any tribunal, and cannot draft final binding documents (contracts, wills, affidavits).
3. Accuracy and currency of information
South African law changes frequently. The assistant may cite statutes, sections, or case law that have since been amended, repealed, or overruled. Always verify against primary sources — the Government Gazette, SAFLII, or the responsible department — before acting.
4. Emergency situations
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, do not use this service. Contact:
- SAPS emergency: 10111
- GBV Command Centre: 0800 428 428 (or dial *120*7867#)
- Childline SA: 116
- Ambulance: 10177
5. Your uploads and conversations
When you upload a document, its text is extracted and sent to the AI model to answer your question. When you send a message, the message and prior conversation for that topic are sent to the AI model. Do not upload documents or share information containing personal details of third parties without a lawful basis under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).
6. No liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the operators of SA Law, their employees, and their contractors accept no liability for any loss, damage, cost, or claim arising from your reliance on, or inability to use, any information provided by the assistant.
7. Acceptable use
- Do not use the assistant to plan or facilitate unlawful conduct.
- Do not attempt to extract personal data of other users or bypass safety measures.
- Do not present outputs as originating from a licensed attorney.
8. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the service constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the South African courts.
